Occupational Safety and Health
The Occupational Safety and Health or Factory Inspectorate department aims to prevent accidents and diseases at workplaces/factories. The main functions of the inspectorate are as follows:
– To conduct factory inspections and to monitor and enforce compliance with the Factories Act of 1974.
– To provide advice, educate and give technical information and support services to empower employers and employees and to prevent labour disputes, workplace accidents and diseases.
– Coordination of activities geared towards implementation of the Sierra Leone workplace on HIV/AIDS and other occupational diseases.
– Coordinate trade test activities and issuance of relevant Trade test certificates to successful applicants.
